I have decided to share something that I wished I never had to feel. On January 28 2011 while transporting an inmate in need of emergency medical attention Officer Pomales, a 22 year veteran of the New York State Department Of Corrections was killed in the line of duty. His full name was Casimiro Pomales but we all called him "Maxi".
I can only try and convey the closeness in which you will feel toward your fellow officer.
You will become a family.. albeit one of dysfunction and of the occasional hi-jinks a family none the less.
Maxi was a great officer. He never hesitated to help you. He was a Loving father,a mentor, and a friend. Loosing him feels like my family isn't whole anymore.
Over 700 hundred officers from as far as Gowanda, Auburn, and Attica attended to display solidarity and to pay their respects to Maxi.
When one of us passes we all feel it. Give your families a Kiss, let them know you love them- Take care.
