I'm moving to Alaska before the 30th of july 2010
« on: July 23, 2010, 12:30:59 pm »
I got a one year contract working a in a small un-heard of town in Alaska named Kotzebue. I doubt they have high-speed available and the status of getting internet in the short term is slim. I wish everyone the best.

Pssshhh Z, you brag about being up north, but you cant get much north than this lol. check it out on a map.

I didn't even know about the job until yesterday and i jumped on it. I've got TONS of stuff to get ready before i go.

P.S. if anyone wants to buy a lifted 96' ford ranger, v6, 4wd, manual or a 86' kawasaki 454 ltd motorcycle in so-cal hit me up. Great deals available.
Enjoy your creative game-play, whatever that may include.

Cool and good luck! Make sure to report back when you have the possibility, and don't forget to cover your windows at night.  :smile

Moving to the land of ugly women and $30 for one egg?

Here is a photo of the place in the middle of it's 2 month summer...when it is not under snow and the wind is not sweeping the ocean over the area:

Seems the bit of land it is on is 3 miles long and 1,100-3,600 feet wide.

More info:
The long strip in the center is the runway for the AFB.

Read:

At least you can carry your .50 cal BMG rifle without any permits which is good because the polarbears that wander around -will- eat you.

I hope your getting a few hundred $ per hour because EVERYTHING costs so much there.
Make sure you have return air tickets home befor you leave LA!

Well you can heat your room with an 1200 watt grow bulb and grow free pot at the same time as it's 100% legal in that state.

Don't know what you will be doing for the work but the pay you quoted sounds like food, fuel, heat, power, water and rent will eat up about 100% of it as your NOT in the 3 big cities and simple things like an egg, tomato or a loaf of bread make the price of pot in California look low.

Alaska costs many times more to live in than Beverly Hills or Hawaii to live in.
I think the guys that work on the pipe lines spend about 70% of wages to simply live.

Finding Work in Alaska
State of Alaska > DOLWD > Employment Security
Note they also say come with a return air ticket and at least $3K in pocket...and WARN of job offers to those out of State so I hope your not falling for some scam.
http://www.labor.state.ak.us/esd_alaska_jobs/ak_over.htm

Here you can get an idea of the wages paid for jobs back in 2006 so if they "offer" you much more be warned:
http://www.labor.state.ak.us/research/wage/swoes.htm

Now I'm not trying to talk you out of doing what you want...but trying to get you to think about it a bit.
Remember when you wanted to join the Marines?
I said the Air Force might have be a better idea and you got all upset.

[TKC] The Heckler! went into the USAF and spent almost his whole time going to government paid collage class and earned both Rank and pay  raise and at the end of enlistment became what he calls a PFC (proud fucking civilian!)

Now the USAF is paying him his government benefits and he is STILL going to Uni class!

He took computer/communications/intel class's.

You -are- smart and if you can hang in and finish the class your taking with what amounts to a "b" or higher grade you could get into the USAF as an OFFICER after basic if you also spend a bit to learn to fly first.

I know a girl who went into the USAF kept up good grades and spent 8 years doing NOTHING but going to school.
On leave she would say how much she hated the service...but they kept paying $10K reenlistment bonus and sending her to class while she had officer pay.
When she did leave she went directly to work as an department manager at top pay at a cooling tower/water treatment company I worked for.

If your an only chiled the Service can't send you into a combat zone as well!

I've got free utilities, food and housing. nothing special but i can deposit 2500 a month directly into my savings account and not HAVE to spend a dime on living. I'm going to continue school up there on my own doing online classes and getting rid of my bullshit classes so all i need to do is head back to cali and coast along the way to my B.S. in (insert degree here). I want to get my Electrical Engineering degree but im still very well undecided.

I understand electronics much better than i have ever understood programming syntax and i tend to understand programming better when i think of it as a circuit anyway. I have a very good understanding of computers and how the code works... i can tell you the theory of how a program works or the theory of what to put in a program and why... but i have difficulties looking at code and visualizing it. I would be the PERFECT person to have between market/research and the actual programmers in a software company.

its just something different. ive always wanted to just go into the unknown... i don't have the resources to just drive to Colorado or check out New Mexico, the 14-15 MPG my truck gets makes it too expensive to even depart... plus i would get halfway there and my truck would die. It would make for one hell of an adventure but i need to eat often, i look like a crack-addict and i eat all the time. Its the cigarettes that's literally killing me and its very apparent even already.

I do have to deal with the fact i may not see some of my family ever again due to their illness... but ask anyone in my life if they ever remember a selfish act ive commited, you won't find a single count and i can guarantee that. I need to take this one.

I need to say good-bye to the shitty beginning ive started for myself, i need to get away from "friends" who don't know what friendship is. I fear loosing mental stability if i continue on this path and that scares the hell out of me. Maybe Alaska is a shitty idea, but maybe its the best thing that has ever happened to me. These are the questions i need answers to.

Fkn hell... i hope this aint a mid-life crisis lol... that means i only got till I'm 40!

I need something to live for. I need to find purpose and most importantly i need to find myself...

When i was younger i would hear people around my age saying "I just need to find myself" and i didn't understand that until now. Being soo close in your own life you just don't see it from a distance. I really honestly do have alot going for me even though it seems im staring at a closed door all the time. I've got too many regrets to only be 20 years old, life aint fair but im ready to take my fair share.

To whom-ever reads this, drugs really are bad... i remember being younger and hearing the same thing and i know the kids dont listen... So if anyone here is going to "experiment" or become regular users of anything test your intelligence. I can guarantee you that even smoking pot will kill your mind in ways you don't even know about.

I used to be a very intelligent person, it brings me to tears that im not as capable as i used to be and i don't know of any way to get that back. until about 2 years ago i would always hear from everyone that i was smart... only ONE person has helped me realize how screwed up things get over time if you leave things un-checked... I should be a fkn millionaire already but im not... Everyone needs a Medic every now and then.

Well, i just realized ive been writing for a quick second now so i will leave off with this for now.

I think I was 19 so many decades ago when I hit the road.
The 1st love of my life had broken my heart.
I was depressed and life sucked shit.

It sounds like it's your time to do life's thing.

Welcome to the club.

You will make it.

Keep in contact little brother.

Welcome to the club.

I'm just pissed at life for making all this happen soo damn fast. Computer work has been picking up steadily, i get a call 2 days ago for a job that i leave for next week and well... my motivation is ive got a few people waiting for me to fail, but 100% fuck that. Not an option.

Plus the new truck and bike paid in cash when i get back are decent motivation enough. Wish i had money to invest though, i would be doing pretty good with my ford stock and BP if i bought them when i wanted.

My buddy Danny up there said they see them around the town often enough. I'm still undecided if i want to buy a S&W .50 handgun, that should protect me from polar bears and Eskimos.

That .50 Magnum handgun might be the most powerful one on the planet but all it will do is make sure when the bear eats you...that it's really pissed off.
You may only have one shot to drop it so go large.
Try either a 700 magnum or a Barnett w/.50 BMG ammo and use cold weather grease so the fire pin does not hang up.

Ammo costs about the same for any of the three.

I do need to take advantage of the liberal gun laws lol you dont need a permit or licence to own a gun. You don't even need a permit to carry a concealed fire-arm if your over 21.
