oops
« on: April 20, 2010, 11:34:11 pm »
well lucky me eh ,just had a power surge .. all the pc's in the house got fried

suppose its anticheaters payback hehe
typing this on a laptop.

it's made me think hard about it all , i waste far too much time on the internet as is so actually i think its not a bad thing.

anyway it's official ,i will be taking a break for a while maybe for ever depends on what i decide to do..

i will still moderate but as for gameing or developing hacks/hacking for the time being all will be on indeffinate hold.

thanks for reading .... time to go out in the garden and drink some beers .. have fun :)

Don't you have a surge protector on each of them?
This is the 2nd time this has happened to you or am I thinking about when Jamie had his VC rig hit with a bolt from the sky?

yes it's happend before.

never botherd with one though m8 , useless 99% of the time and the 1% there usually switched off , seems all the ram chips have been blown on 1 , and on the other the mobo is leaking too much power to the system ( probably a resister has fused open ) anyway cut a long story short ,i put some new sticks in the big pc and they lasted 20 minutes so its a deffinate case of new mo-bo and ram , all in will only cost 80 quid but it really did make me think about should i bother or not.

the other pc is polling but its getting stuck on poll event so theres a hardware problem stripped it bareboned , .. ram had gone as well , dont think a surge protector would have saved them seems the static done most of the damage.

Well I don't mean a UPS just a cheap power strip with a surge protector...it's "on" all the time.

I am thinking your PSU's got cooked and your best off grabbing the GFX cards before they get fried as well.

Send in the MB,Ram and PSU's for warranty repair.

Thats unfortunate m8, but i also know how you feel about not wanting to repair them. Feel like some broken chains?

Bet the old lady is pissed though, "Aww damn, wtf am i going to do with him now..."

Aight, take it easy, and have fun watching them tomatoes growing in your garden (I know you got em m8, i just know it).

Wow, that's bad. I hope your HD didn't get fried there. Local backups don't seem to suffice in all situations.

Yeah. Sure hope your hard drives are intact. Hate to see all that good code go to waste. (Although, if the drive boards are fried, you can swap out the board so long as you have another drive of the exact model.)

You can but it still might not READ the old data.
The controller keeps track of the old sector/block locations and a new board will not know those same exact points on the HD.

If the HD's he has are ATA then I could send him a copy of SpinRite 6.0...as long as the drive spins it will recover all corrupted data and even repairs bad sectors in most cases.

i still don't know if i really want to fix them , im out of the house all day anyway , i might wait untill the autumn or untill the weather turns cold again before i fix them up it's only new mobo's and ram, as far as i know all the hd's are ok , well maybe 1 master isnt polling up but thats easy enough to fix.

btw try this :
stop reading  , turn off you pc & get out in the garden.

Just got back from the contractor garden center with my first truckload of topsoil for the day done, maybe 4-5 more truckloads of top soil and 2 more free truckloads of 100% cow grow from the local dairy farm.

Got just little over a half acre to do today.

Half acre...Pffft!
Get up here and work my "yard" for me...it is about 88 city sized lots.
Damn thing takes 2 days to mow with my small tractor.

See there, you have a tractor and i have a shovel...

Id be more than happy to help you mow your "grass", then later i can help you mow your lawn.
