The last computer I bought was back in the early 80's...went right to work building printed circuit boards for it.

I just build new ones when the caps on the old one pop as they are about 3 years old by then and not worth fixing.

ATARI 64KB computer.
I added 1MB of RAM as a "hard drive",IBM controler and a 40MB HD (largest HD that was made back then)...also used a ROM burner and reprogrammed the controler chips on the 5 1/4" soft floppy drives.

This was the first and the one I developed all my hardware mods on:

http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?st=1&c=27

This was the next one and I moved hardware mods over to it:

http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?st=1&c=21

I gave the 130 with all my mods and a collection of original boxed software along with about 3,000 "pirated" software for all types of computers (they would all run on the ATARI) to Mini-Z when I moved last year.

I ran RFVBBS (Radio Free Venice BBS) on both computers until 86-87. In 1989 I changed my phone number because it was off the hook unless I needed to place a call,if I did not get that modem sound from people still trying to connect to my BBS!

Now days when my main system dies (I OC and run them 24/7/365) I just build a new one with top of the line parts.
Although I own stock in both AMD and INTC I prefer to use AMD CPU's as I get far more bang for the money.

I've got one mouse for my Amiga that looks a bit like that one. My microsoft one is optical. It ceased to work after 4 years, but there was just a cable-connection problem which was easy to fix. Now it's completely worn out, but it still works.  :icon_thumbsup
