The new AMD AMD Phenom II was tested last Friday at a public showing before it goes on sale the first part of Jan 2009 (about 7 weeks time).
Off the shelf the improved quad core CPU is 3Ghz and with air cooler and stock volts easily hits a 33+% overclock @ 32C (90F) just like the Optrons used to do.
In fact all my Optrons with DFI MB's did a full 50% OC on stock volts.
With high end cooling and a .11 volt boost the Phenom II hit 6.3Ghz or
over a 100% overclock!
The new Phenom II will be AM2+ compatible and able to use DDR3 Ram.
I wonder what the high end server version (like Optron) of this CPU will be able to do in about a years time?

AMD was selling for $1.62 per share after his last speech and INTC had dropped over $2.
I bought another 1K shares of AMD two weeks ago and 198 of INTC...the next year or two is looking really good for me right now.
