{electrical} someone help me with this homework?
« on: October 09, 2008, 11:36:50 am »
Ok so here is the assignment... basic electrical diagram of a 2 player game.

rules of the assignment are
-each player has two switches
-each player has a light

-goal of the game, out wit your opponent and select a switch to beat him.

more in depth of it, there are two players, each player has two switches and a light, the goal is to get your light to light up.

lets call player one X and player two O

player X has swA and swB, player O also has a swA and a sw2 (sw=switch)

if player X selects A and player O selects A then player X's light turns on.

all the cases
AA=X
AB=O
BB=O
BA=X

the rules are to use nothing but wire, two light bulbs and 4 switches (not specified as spst,spdt,dtsp,dtsp,2-3-4 pt or anything)
and the light will NOT turn on until both players have selected a switch.

anyone give me a hand?

P.S.

Dont laugh..i thought this was simple till i started drawing it... if i had a god damn DPDT relay or something then i could do it in a matter of seconds.... this game was built in the 50's, the goal of the assignment is basically to copy the game without looking inside (primitive reverse engineering).
Enjoy your creative game-play, whatever that may include.

Try this:

All switches have to be open until they are selected though.

bypass the switch m8 , this shit is simple electricians work , sometimes in old houses there are electrical wires insulated with old brown paper .. no plastic was around in them dark days so usually what would be done is instead of ripping out all the old shit which is dangerous becasue sometimes aspestos paper was used they simply re-wire the whole thing .. which meens bypassing everything , tell your teacher that it will impress him/her ;) when he/she asks why you cheated .. say i didnt its the way its been done for over 100 years by fully qualifiied sparkies.. btw another bit of info for you m8 , usa is more expensive to wire a property because you use lower voltages which meens thicker cable .. we use higher voltage which meens thinner cable which is less expensive due to copper used.. tell them to go fuck themselves if they say your wrong and get the nec/eeic regs manual out ( the elcetricians bible )  it will really impress them ;)

Try this:

All it takes for either X or O is to keep the switch closest to their bulb connected all the time....if either side connects a switch on the far side then their bulb would light up.

The way you have drawn it NEITHER player could STOP the other side from makeing their bulb glow.

@ [TKC]Symantic...

Each bulb needs TWO two-way switch's with each player having one of the switch's.
End of puzzle.

EDIT:
A two-way switch is installed when you want to control a light from two ends of a hallway or room.

EDIT #2
Wiring diagram:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=two+way+switch+diagram&aq=2&oq=twoway+swit

EDIT #3 regarding RULES:
Quote
the light will NOT turn on until both players have selected a switch.
->UNSCREW the bulbs until both have selected a switch position.
Even then in fact the light may NOT turn on...so the rule it's self is not stated correctly.
At least the system is now built as per spec in regards to parts list.

PS: At least when I worked for Bechtel as an engineer's aid on an atomic power plant,the work -I- dealt with was correct the first time around.

he will say F... simple as that lol.

he is a very "funny" guy and he dont care who the hell he fails. He would probably fail someone just on the fact that either him or the rest of the students will get a kick out of it.

Ah well, at least it fulfills the case-requirements.
