SoftIce Alternatives?
« on: September 22, 2008, 03:00:22 pm »
Heya, been using TSearch/Cheat Engine for a while now. But there are serious limitations, so I've been looking into SoftIce.

However, there seem to be MANY problems with Windows XP SP2, mostly because it's discontinued. I've found two alternatives, and was wondering if anybody has any input on them:

Syser - The "new" SoftIce apparently, even compatible with the old SoftIce commands. (So I imagine you could use the current guides on SoftIce to learn to use it?)
http://www.sysersoft.com/

Rasta Ring 0 Debugger - Open source, has a very similar interface to SoftIce, 'platform independent'.

I'm probably going to just try to get SoftIce working on my system. (A lot of questions though, can't seem to find answers... what version? What upgrades? etc etc) If I can't, I'll probably try out Syser unless somebody can give me some advice.

I also had this problem long time ago. I managed to get sice working for a week or two. Then I had to reinstall and didn't want to do it again. And OllyDBG doesn't want to work in x64 windows it seems.

The debugger in Cheat Engine has worked quite well. There's also "memory hacking tool", it's much more advanced but a bit buggy. They work, but nothing I've tried beats soft ice.
Heckling is an art, and game hacking a science.

I don't know how much this helps (Thumper is fairly smart already) but I found 458K results:

Yeah, I did search Google for a while (that's how I found those two, plus some others.. downloaded OllyDBG and am trying that out) but I wanted to get some personal opinions from here. :D Most people here seem pretty knowledgeable, so I thought I'd ask.

Edit: I spent about 4 hours trying to get SoftIce running, but apparently it can't run alongside Skype at all (which I use to communicate with my sister, as she doesn't have a phone in her new apartment yet and her cellphone won't work unless she walks down the street) nor Daemon Tools (stpd.sys) which I rely on heavily for... well, everything. I have several very large hard drives, I take DVD/CDs out once, ISO them (crack them if needed) and then put the DVD/CD away so it won't get harmed.

Even though I COULD get it running, I'd rather be able to use Skype and Daemon Tools.

http://gizmo5.com/pc/

btw syser i have used and found it crashed to blue screen of death a hell of a lot.

btw use softice and a hider , im not sure as i made my own stealth module for it ( no ) but you could try frogsice or something similar

softice .. NT version will run on xp with minor changes , also try and get hold of a date cracked version or you will have to turn the clock back to 2006 .. softice is undefeated for beating a/c's .. i have tried all of the alternatives to softice and found nothing as good as the origional.
