These Northern California wild fires are south and west of me. One whole town has been evacuated.

Just read the posted news link (For my interest : 35 sq mile = 22400acres / 9000 hectare) -I certainly hope the fires dont end up like they have here in Victoria (Aus) -"In early 2009, bushfires swept across Victoria, devastating 78 communities and 400, 000 hectares (1545 sq mile) of land.  It is currently thought that 173 people lost their lives during the fires. A total of 2029 homes were destroyed along with 61 businesses, 5 schools and kindergartens, 3 sporting clubs and numerous other buildings"

Those fires are from last year and burned all summer.

*While we crash and burn, small, low tech, agrarian societies such as the Hmong in the mountains of Laos will continue on without so much as blinking an eye.*

Check out the video in the post above the photographs.
When I told you I had to go check my mailbox a mile away from the house I was not pulling your leg.

L.A. county has 16,000,000 people,this county has 8,000.

It's a very beautiful and seemingly peaceful place. Enjoy it while it lasts, with Global Warming finally becoming a Global Crisis places like these probably won't exist for our childrens children. I wouldn't start driving a Segway because of it though :P
Being Australian is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, and then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

I honestly don't know much about the type of person my great grandfather was, nor do i think he gave a damn about me...

so... why should i care about my great grandkids, especially when i aint going to be around.

Well we are not even at the end of May yet and the TV says they have found over 200,000 Pot plants.
NP...just a drop in a rain storm.  :icon_laugh

No doubt it was all found on public land (National Forrest).

On another "growing note"...I have many olive, pear, plum and apple trees and the GF took down the 6 foot high wires around them all this week.
As I fully expected the massive deer population here went right to work EATING the apple trees!
Rather than set up a few wires connected to my 15 mile electric fence charger....I simply sprayed the apple trees with a mix of water and ROTTEN eggs, garlic oil.
Any doubts why the deer (and rabbits) no longer come near those apple trees?

oi m8, cause you destroyed the apples yourself.

honestly screw those small weak hotfences, stick a self resetting circuit breaker on your 210 lines and wrap them ten feet around your bushes. make it a capital offence. if you want you could stick something like a 1100 mF run cap on there and cook the meat in a split second.
Enjoy your creative game-play, whatever that may include.

(-12) degrees Celsius = 10.4 degrees Fahrenheit
Still nice and warm in your part of SE then.
It was -9F the day the storm passed and the sky fully cleared letting "the warmth" radiate off into space.
Last year it got down to -18F at my place and the record cold was in 1972 at -34F.
Record high for Dec. was in 1932 and 71F!

Looks like I will have to get some more polls and redi-mix and add another 4 feet to how high the garden fence is.
It's only another 1,200 running feet of fenceing!  :icon_laugh
