MPEG Sound problems X.X
« on: April 03, 2008, 02:34:10 pm »
I'm in the middle of Half Life 2 episode one (steam was ripped) and am experiencing sound problems. I saved the game last night, exited and then went to sleep. I woke up, got back on my computer and watched a couple of podcasts. They are MPEG 4 videos and play in quicktime which doesn't have the proper codec to play audio from MPEG movies. So I naturally got the proper codec installed and everything was sweet (videos played with sound in a new player). I obviously watched the podcasts then after they finished I went on to play Half Life 2 ep.1. I loaded my save and started playing but had no sound. Before I installed this codec the sound was crystal clear so I immediately thought about the codec. I uninstalled it and got rid of the old reg files etc. I started playing again and STILL had no sound. This has really annoyed me. I'll take any suggestions. If it helps I think the sound is in MPEG 2 (in the game). There is sound in other games and my music is still fine. I tried reinstalling the game but to no avail.

Being Australian is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, and then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

K-lite codec pack is a one step solution for all codec problems I've had.
It's one of the first things I install on any family/friend PC I build. Naver have a single audio/video playback problem with em.

3 flavors Basic, Standard or Full

Alternatively you can check out Codec Pack All in One

When I built the new system about 2 months ago I had no sound trying to view Xvid movies. It had been a couple of years since the last build and I had forgotten what I had done to get it working. I already had both the Xvid and Divx codex...it was the sound that was missing.
Rather than d/l an entire pack of codex I did not need I just d/l and install the AC3 Filter.

Uninstall any other codec packs and codecs. Use a codec cleaner.

Install a codec pack (k-lite) and/or reinstall the application which is making problems.

ps: for vista i used the "Vista Codec Package" (http://vista-codec-package.softonic.de/)

What's the problem installing a bunch of codecs? It's not as if it's gonna slow down the machine or anything.

I got the Full one from the first link and installed and the sound worked perfect. Ty, +1. And thanks to everyone else that helped, +1 to everyone else that posted.

K-lite codec pack has regular updates.
I've updated my codec pack about 3 times this year and they include ffdshow updates.
