*While we crash and burn, small, low tech, agrarian societies such as the Hmong in the mountains of Laos will continue on without so much as blinking an eye.*

In Colorado , he would have had the right to shoot them and just call the services to clean up the mess without any troubles.
But that s Texas , he did the right choice , they congratulate him cos all went fine but they would probably have found a old law to send him to death row if he had shoot them.

I don't understand how people get such an odd view of the laws here in the US.

A person has a Right to defend themselves.
A person does NOT have a Right to commit murder.

I have only had to use a firearm one time in the first 50 years of my life to aid me in a privet persons arrest and I did not need to fire it...but I was sure ready to if he moved the wrong way.
You see in that case I had already beat on him for about eight minutes and had already broken his wrist, elbow, shoulder and lumped his head and face up without much effect...he was on some sort of drugs and felt no pain!
He won't be coming back to break into MY home.

i think i maybe have a odd view of Texas it s true.
i learned to speak English in U.S when i was a healthy foreign student.
Went to many states and lived in New Mexico , Colorado and Washington state.
Even if i got kind of banned in the U.S after a fast county jail trip , i always had a lot of love for the country.
The only thing i never liked was the crimerates , gun policies and the death penalties in many states.
I know you re from CA and i don't want to make you angry at me but to my opinion , laws like the third strike are ridiculous and can't solve any criminal problems as we all know sending a man to penitenciary in CA will only make him a worst individual than before he goes there.
For the guns , it s pretty simple , if you put a gun in an idiot hand , he s gonna use it and not only to protect his house.
Why so much carjacking , robberies , school shootings and gangs in the bay or L.A , simply cos all those guns are there.
Being able to buy a gun at 18 is nonsense , actually being able to buy one in the street is the government s guilt.

Just how many school shootings have there been in the US in the past 50 years?
Three?
All of them have been in the past few years as well and all but one had not bought the gun(s) used legally.
Before the Law that infrings on the Peoples Right to own and bare (use) teachers in the schools I attended HAD a handgun in their pocket and we never heard of a "school shooting". In fact many schools had a -rifle range- on campus.

Robberies -with guns- in the US is vastly lower than in most countries when arrests vs convections are taken into account. Here -every arrest- is counted in the statistics unlike most countries and the UK in particular which goes out of the way to convect for something -other than- a "gun crime".

The crime of Car Jacking in the county below LA County dropped to ZERO when the Sheriff gave people there concealed carry permits!

Gangs are about organised crime and most of the hispanic gangs have a vast amount of -illeagle immigrants- and they tend to be in areas that also have a larger population as illeagles as they (the victims) fear reporting to the police.

The press goes out of it's way to report ALL the crime with firearms it can (basically every one they can dig up) while they almost NEVER report the more than 2,000,000 (reported) times each year that honest people use firearms to STOP crime...who never even discharge the firearm involved.

With a known population well over 300,000,000 and a known 3 firearms sold -after- 1969 for every person in the country (and an estimated 6 per person) statistically (population vs firearms) it makes the US the least likely place to be shot during a crime.

No "politics" in this thread at all.
It was a post about a news item that had the same name as the thread title and the thus far the discussion was about statistics.

Nobody running for public office.
No Laws being past.
No government policy.

Given those facts would you reconcider -unlocking- the topic (it is in the Off Topic area of the forum) as it was just started and already has shown some interest?

I am sure others would like to commint on the news report,a few of which come to mind and some are even Mods here.

Well, as long as the debate won't be about pro or contra US gun laws it's ok. Else it's politics.

oh comen ,  i believe those statistics but you know there are shootings and murders every nights in the huge U.S cities.
Actually even in small cities like Little Rock , you probably have murders every night.
Why each schools has a metal detector , because they are school shootings , not talking about the big nonsense ones but the everyday ones you can find in high schools , colleges and less in universities

The High School my youngest goes to has no metal detectors.
I think rater than trying to recall what you may or may not have heard some commutator on TV say over the years you should look up the statistics.
Crime records are kept for public viewing by the DOJ and the FBI...go look them up and -then- tell everyone just how many "school shootings" have occurred in the past half century.

I bet it is very far from "all the time" and closer to the -three- I talked about.

tv! i don t watch it ; you should know that cnn and about all news channels in your country or mine are manipulated. The freedom of speech in U.S is total BS.
three school shootings in all time? lol , three school shootings everyday u should say ; ok , school detectors are only in some specific suburbs , happy for you it s not the one u send your youngest to. Crimerates were so high at schools they made spefific zones around them where you get years sentence if you just get caught with some bud :(
As i told you , i am not your age but lived long enough there to know what s up with U.S : huge gun policy problem that now they can t control ; US social security is a shame , if you make a % statistic with the population of india and U.S : there are more homeless in U.S than in india ; and that s same for all the countries in the world even the poorest like Bangladesh.
I love U.S and specially CA and i like you , i respect you , but when you speak about CA , you make us forget that cities like Vallejo for exemple have ghettos like Sowetos : the houses and cars may look better , the struggle stay the same and the murder rates are even higher for a young cat my age.
The three strike felony law in CA makes people that can t afford lawyers and can t pay cautions victims. they ll fuck there future and will be condammed to work for 4.50 $ an hour.
oh if you re lucky , they will give you a green card if you accept to make their war , if you refuse they will send you in a charter back to your home like...me.
I love the Rams & the Clippers tho ;)

$4.50 an hour is impossible here...it is about half of minimum wage!
Anyhow like I said I grew up with everyone around me owning firearms...the schools had R.O.T.C. and rifle ranges and we never heard of trouble with arms.

I am forced to use my gun at least once every two weeks.

I will post a picture of it soon. I store real firearms in basement + beer and paralyzer in bed in case of close quarter.
