[Poll] Hacking hacks policy change?
« on: April 22, 2007, 04:20:49 am »
Right now it's ok to talk about hacking hacks like in this topic:
http://tkc-community.net/forum/index.php?topic=6136.0

Example of a regulation:
Questions allowed, but no instructions in public.

The poll result will be decisive.

Well it is a bit pointless becuase the same methods and tools used are the same as for games or am I wrong?

I am casting a "non-vote" on this untill I hear more on the subject.

Hmm, don't mind either way. On one hand why would you want the information but on the other hand your learning something new/more. I think the developers esp should have a say in this vote.
Being Australian is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, and then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

lets not go backwords here, were here to learn, not steal. also its the same thing as if someone were to post information about nuclear bombs, and then turning that knowledge into nuclear power. Knowledge aint bad, its what you do with it.

Same thing as gun laws....
Enjoy your creative game-play, whatever that may include.

We all know that...I think this whole thing is based on the SUBJECT of a thread you started and not much more than that.
The tools and methods are exactly the same.
Success however is very differant when dealing with encryption along with anti-debugging traps .

IE: Today Raven asked me about using common gamehacking tools to find passwords for RAR Protected files....relatively simple vs above example.
I told him the last time I myself worked on one (Apple gave it to me) it took less than 1 minute to find the password (only 5 places and text only) and asked that he send me the file (it had a JPG in it...the test he was given was to find the password to un-rar).

I sent him the JPG inside it about 5 minutes and let him know it only had 7 places in the password.....and left him to figure out how to open it himself.

If you add even simple encyption into the mix things become more time consumming as far as simple password finding.
If you add anti-debugging traps AFTER your able to run a program....along with on the fly de-encyption and code placement each runtime........you could make a lifelong career out of it (even for myself).

At least one other person here on TKC knows how I opened the passworded file and I think we AGREE that knowledge should never made more open to people outside of those who already know.

It's different for all kinds of people. Some prefer tutorials, while others prefer that kind of practice. Personally I think it's ok as long as other peoples hacks aren't ripped off and published as ones own. For large code chunks I guess it would be a copyright offence too, and that we don't encourage. :smile

Anyway, poll says there'll be no policy change.
