some sounds are located in various CBFs,

vietcong_eu_02.cbf has the most sound files,

vietcong_eu_gsp.cbf contains alot of singleplayer soundfiles, aswell the mp parts of voices.

i lowered the sounds and repacked them..
or what do you mean ? it doesnt work for me !
and i looked into every! cbf package

weird, it should work.

If you edit soundfiles properly, and repack, they should be the way you left them.

The only thing is, you have to keep in mind, that the engine sometimes asks for sounds that are stereo, and surten frequences.

There is software around, that tells you the codec of a wav or ogg file, make sure, your edited one, and the original one has the same.

Make sure you repack it as a addon.

You create a cbf file, with the same rootfolders  as the original CBF files.

you first create a folder, in there u create something like this:

G/SND/etc.

pack your cbf in, name it whatever you want, and stick the cbf in vietcong/addons.

it will run automaticly this way, by just putting it in vietcong/addons.

hope that helps a bit.

hi ok..
that helped !!

but it doesnt work :)

i repeat everything..
i unpacked vietcong_eu_02 and vietcong_160 and edited the soundfiles in those packages.. gunsounds lower footsteps higher and background sounds lower

then i repacked them and put them into addons.. without a folder.. just the cbf files in addon..

what am i doin wrong ?

-- EDIT --

i think i know my problem..
i unpacked the cbf folders.. changed them and repacked them.. then the filesize is different to the original ones...
i renamed the original cbf's but left them in the vietcong folder...
if i remove them and only let the repacked ones in the addon folder.. vc doesnt load..

if i put the original ones back.. vietcong works.. but it loads the renamed original cbfs because of the file size..

-- EDIT --
ok now i nearly got it

i created a folder in addons named SND like in the vietcng_eu_02.cbf
then ive put the edited vietcong_eu_02.cbf in the sounds folder..

but nothing is changed.. whats the last fault ? :)

-- EDIT --

now i made a folder called SND in addons and put the folder weapons as cbf (weapons.cbf) in it..
nothing changed lol

EDIT:

for your cbf problem:

It is the goal, that you put a cbf file in addons, not a folder.

You have to repack your changed files in a new cbf, dont replace any, that will result in a crash.

after you repacked your cbf, place it in vietcong/addons.

About removing sounds:

for example, you want to remove all background sounds from a level.

Lets take the crickets from Halongport as example.

You open up Halong in the editor,

( using the duplicate function, or recent scenes)

You select the event that creates the sound.
( the purple piramids are events )

Then you select Properties.

You will see a number, that the sound event has.

Open up the Xsound.txt, located in various CBF files, and search
( control  F  ) for that value.

Then you will see, various soundfiles, either wav or ogg, are linked to that code.

That means, you have to change them all.

In the case of the crickets, there are about 3 wav files for every typ of cricket sound.

Just use your mind, it helped me to ;)

Altho the puzzle is to make a edited sound file to make the FOOTSTEPS far louder than all other sounds what Lava is trying to teach you has much value in editing and mapping in general as well.

ive put a cbf file in addons..

for example.. if i edit the weapons folder in vietcong_eu_02 .. do i have to put weapons.cbf in addons or the whole vietcong_eu_02.cbf with the changed weapons inside the addon folder ?

my problem is how to load the sounds into the game..
ive edited the sounds repacked them into the original cbf package and put them into addon

but the game doesnt load it..
the original vietcong_eu_02 still exists in the vietcong folder
and the modified is in the addons

If you are stuck on something you can do 2 things:

1: keep on testing, or die trying.

2: bypass your problem.

Instead of editing soundfiles you want louder, why not remove sounds that are an interuption for your gameplay?

Off course, you cant really remove something, using an addon.

But why not repacking empty soundfiles, with the same filenames as those who you want to be silenced?

Even easier:

Replace the sounds for sounds that dont work, if they dont work, it should be silenced.

If you cant get it done, i will look in it, and create an addon for you with lets say, no enviroment sounds on HalongPort.

hey
first thanx for your patience with me :)

my problem is that i dont really understand how to load the addon in the game..
all i need is screenshots or something or as you said a sample package

but i type my steps i did again:
i unpacked vietcong_eu_02.cbf
i took the folder footsteps and made all soundfiles louder
then i repacked it..

i put the repacked vietcong_eu_02.cbf in addons and left the original where it was !!

if i replace environment sounds with empty soundfiles and repack the package.. and delete the original unedited package vietcong doesnt load..
because the filesize of the repacked is different to the original pack

Ok, just a quick test, should work.

Download it, and put the cbf file in addons, and run VC.

Create a server on Halongport, and listen :)
