Hoping my laptop lives to a rip old age....the GTX 840M in it has never been used and in a year or 2 I will clone the HD to a 1TB SSD.

As for my new desktop build this is my MB:

You have more CORES but slower stock speed CPU and 2 of my GFX cards vs my 1...but I am not driving a 50" monitor just a 1ms 144Hz curved 24" @ arms length.
I have more RAM and NO HDD at all.
My MB has built in RADAR HACKS based on audio...can "auto overclock" my CPU to 5Ghz and my RAM to DDR 3800...all 32 GB's of it.
I am sure I can OC further than that as I have been doing so from the 8-bit days.
I can put together hardware and have often built my own circuit boards.

So I suppose the answer to your question is....hell I don't know!

I hate having more cpu than you you know 

go into bios and run a system diagnostic looks to me like youve plugged something in wrong.

ps .. i dont even need to oc , its faster than .... yours on stock

The i7X you claimed to have cost as much as my complete system...alone.
It has 2+ X's my cores but runs STOCK @ 1Ghz less than mine...which costs 1/3 the price of yours.

As I don't use any software that will ever use more than 8 threads and will never be using 18 threads I am more than happy with my long considered choices (6 years of research from other system dying) in hardware and how I am able to manually improve via NON AUTO OC'ing it past 5Ghz and DDR 3800 should I wish to do so.

Working on building/modifying electronic circuits have been both a hobby and sideline income for me for nearly 30 years.

Well the winner this morning is my hangover.
I fell asleep in my chair again and woke up at 3AM.

The internet keeps dropping in and out again this morning....and the power went out for awhile as well.

And it is snowing.

The wife says she is just going to eat Tuna today....so NOW is the time for me to go into town and buy a nice thick Porterhouse stake!
