Shovels
(1/1)
M. O.:
Last time I went to Russia, I joked that I wanted to bring back some good shovels as souvenirs. I encountered a couple of military surplus stores, but the shovels were always in used condition. So I forgot about it.
However, I recently stumbled upon youtube videos of some in action

The above one is a reasonably priced replica. A nice piece of engineering, however, a bit too shiny for regular use.
Seems really balanced:

Turns out the stuff was on ebay all along. Initially I thought about getting foldable ones, but it seems like durability gets drastically reduced in such models. I settled for a light weight titanium model (for hiking) and a steel version for stationary purposes (car or home). Will try to "review" them when I get them, but most likely I will have to wait until it's season again.

Well looks like i am going to get my self one of these shovels.
If i need a job done just use a shovel

Received them now, but need to get some kind of holster. They are not heavy at all, I thought the steel one would be a burden to carry, but it's surprisingly light. Unfortunately the steel shovel needs some sharpening though, and I got my tools at a different place. Will have to wait until summer to test them.
The Cold Steel version comes pre-sharpened, but the wood of the original one is birch which is more durable than the tropical wood used in the replica.
MrMedic:
interesting.
