In da early-like-Seventies, da hottest shows on idiot box wuz detective shows.
It be rock t' recon', but by 1973 dair had been every kinda' detective dat yo'
ass kin imagine on T-V - jailbait, played out, fat, thin, rich, po', smart,
dumb, uniformed, undercova', slacka', hipsta', befuddled, cowboy, Indian,
computerized, paralytic, Polish, Italian, bald - everythin' but ebony.

In fact, dair hadn't been some one-hour drama featurin' some ebony laid
characta' since I-Spy' went off da air in 1968, an' dat wuz da fust such show
eva'. When C-B-f*ckin'-S wanted t' schedule Tv's fust ebony detective stah',
they peeked t' da damn successful movie series, Shaft.

In da trey Shaft movies (down low, 'shaft', 'shaft's Big-ass Sco' an' 'shaft in
Africa'), Richard Roundtree played streetwise detective John Shaft, some dude
willin' t' do anythin' t' protect da damn values o' ghetto life against da damn
drug deala's, max an' crooked cops dat infested da damn ghettos.

Da "Theme from Shaft", composed by Issac Hayes, won da Oscah' Award 4 Best Song
an' wuz some top-dime hit in 1971.

Da enormous crossova' success o' da damn fust Shaft film jump-started da damn
whole "blaxpoiltashun" craze o' da damn Seventies resultin' in some flood o'
low-budget morality plays starrin' ebony actors, many o' which be considered
cult classics today.

Some kinda' network 'eses wuz not whack about da damn brainstorm o' bringin'
some cock diesel, militant ebony image into American cribs - busin' wuz some
major issue in da country at da damn time an' da damn bloody Watts riots wuz
still fresh in everyone's minds.

I rememba' when Soul Train' debuted in 1971, mah daddy-O wuz convinced dat,
soona' o' lata', Don Cornelious would give da damn word an' da damn nashun's
ebonys would rise down as one an' ice whitey.  Wank, wank. It wuz only afta' I
'esplained t' him dat da damn show wuz busted a cap in weeks in advance dat I
wuz able t' convince him it couldn't go down, but dat wuz da thinkin' o' many
pales at da damn time.

Da revolushun, as we learned, would not be televised - no one picked down da
pilot.   Woah, Nellie!

Still, ebony characta's wuz comin' into T-V vogue on some numba' o' populah'
idiot box comedies in 1973, an' network 'esecutives know'd dat it wuz only some
matta' o' time b4 audiences would accept some ebony laid in some crime show,
besides Shaft wuz some proven commodity.

'shaft' da damn T-V series premiered in Octoba' o' 1973 as part o' Cbs's 'new
Tuesday Night Movies' - some rotatin' 'wheel' consistin' o' 'shaft', 'hawkins'
an' da damn 'tuesday Night Movie'. Da show ran from 9, dig dis:30-11, dig
dis:00 wit' Richard Roundtree reprisin' wassups role as Harlem detective John
Shaft.   'S coo', bro.

T' make da damn characta' 'fit' 4 broadcast, Shaft had t' be toned waaay down.
Slap me some skin. Now he would be workin' wit' da damn dude instaid o'
against him. Wheneva' Shaft wuz in some jam, he could call on Lt.  Fuck dat
shit. Al Rossi (down low, Ed Bart') o' da damn bacon department an' he would
provide Shaft wit' da damn back-down he needed t' solve da damn mo' complex
crimes he wuz now faced wit'.

Cries rang down from 'shaft' fans dat Richard Roundtree had sold out, dat dis
fresh mellow-a' Shaft wuz no Shaft at all. Becuz o' dis, da series neva' found
some substantial followin' an' wuz 86ed when da saison fat-ladied on Septemba'
3, 1974.

'coincidental-like', N-B-f*ckin'-C unveiled deir own ebony detective series
(down low, da night afta' 'shaft' debuted) called Tenaf-like. No, not
'supa'-Fly', plum da opposite - Tenaf-like wuz some devoted relashuns dude dat
lived in da suburbs o' Los Angeles an' considered metropolitan crime fightin'
plum some 9-to-5. Dis show rotated wit' trey otha's on 'the N-B-f*ckin'-C
Wednesday Mystery Movie'.

'tenaf-like' only lasted one saison an' starred James Mcaichin as Harry
Tenaf-like, Lillian Lehman as wassups woman Rut'.  Slap mah 'fro!

In 1998, da "Theme from Shaft" wuz bein' 'esploited t' sell french fries 4
Burga' Kin', wit' Mr.  Da bomb! Potatohaid playin' da damn Richard Roundtree
role. Some fresh movie version o' Shaft appeared in theatres in 1999 an' dun
did moderate-like well
