Mars has LOTS of water!

After analyzing a scoop of Martian dirt, the rover found water makes up two percent of the planet's surface layer.

One cubic foot of dirt holds up to 2 cups of water!

And for a comparison, the moon has 0.1% water by mass. With much of the south pole craters being covered in ice.
