Mars has LOTS of water!
« on: October 02, 2013, 03:43:51 am »
After analyzing a scoop of Martian dirt, the rover found water makes up two percent of the planet's surface layer.

One cubic foot of dirt holds up to 2 cups of water!

*While we crash and burn, small, low tech, agrarian societies such as the Hmong in the mountains of Laos will continue on without so much as blinking an eye.*

I'd like to add to this.

This is what Mars would like like covered in water

"Although we found water bound up in the soil particles, it's still pretty dry. Also, we didn't find evidence of organic molecules in the soil. So, this doesn't have a very big bearing on the life on Mars discussion."

However, after that they found this.

And for a comparison, the moon has 0.1% water by mass. With much of the south pole craters being covered in ice.

A lot more, a lot less, a little more, a little less...what's the difference? Is there some "critical limit" that you're looking for? Is there a point at which I'm supposed to say "Wow"?
