Gasifier
« on: February 11, 2012, 03:38:18 am »
A biomass gasifier converts simple carbon based fuel like twigs and wood chips into hydrogen and carbon gas.

3 lbs of wood can run an internal combustion engine and alternator to produce 1KW of electric power for an hour.

In WW2 the US sent gasifiers to Europe to generate local power due to the fuel shortages of the war.

70 years after the war some people are bringing the idea back.
The BASIC idea has been around for over a century.

Ive been looking for extra 55 gallon drums so i can start producing some and selling them. I had to use 6 of my 55 gallon drums to store some waste water the previous tenant of the shop decided to put into the heating oil and waste oil furnace tanks...

still trying to decide how much to sell them for. I have 6 11HP Tecumseh engines i can use, figure 5HP each automotive alternator so i can run 2 and then to a battery system then to a 120/240v inverter. Maybe pipe off all the heat into another barrel with a blower on it so you can pipe in clean hot air inside your house in the winter time.

hmm, might just bill it out at my normal 80 dollar an hour rate, drink a few beers in the process + 20% markup on all the parts i use and increase the overall cost 10% more for the time i spent to learn and research the product. god damn i love business. oh, i forgot, add the beer to the overall cost as well, might want a cigar too.
Enjoy your creative game-play, whatever that may include.

Golf cart battery is the one to use.
It is the only true deep cycle.
6 volts each and built to drain all day and be recharge every day ...year after year.

Any battery that lists "cold cranking amps" is not a good battery for constant power use and cycles.
A big bad 12V 8D semi-truck battery is fine for high amp draw for a short time but sucks for other use.

Never use a gel-cell and class-mat is almost as bad.
