Just had an external fail. product is in warranty but it still costs 25 dollars for a friggen phone call to their "customer support" and ive been trying to get a hold of them on their 1 on 1 live chat for the last 1.5 hours. its absurd. Pay the extra 20 bucks and get an actual name brand. no sense in loosing your data and not being able to get any customer service. cant believe it.
EDIT
lol, talked to the customer rep on text chat i should have copied it.
i started off with
"im a computer IT professional so can we please skip all the PEBKAC errors, the disk isnt spinning, ive tested the power supply with a volt meter, the indicator light is on but the drive wont spin"
he says
"did you try another power supply"
I said
"im proficient with a volt meter...
he said
"you can send the drive in at your own expense and we will send you another"
i said
"what about the data"
he said
"you can send it in to a professional to get the data, but its expensive"
i said
"i know, im certified in data retrieval, i just didn't want to open the drive and risk void in warranty"
he said
"well if your certified then its no problem"
i said
"what information do you need from my shop before i start to disassemble the drive as not to void my warranty"
he said
"none, as long as you state your going through a professional which you are"
i said
some more stuff and he said some more stuff
i just wanted to open the enclosure to take the rattling bits out because i dropped it and didnt want them to know it was my fault lol.
plus why not, ive got the green-light on an attempt to take the disk out and place it in another enclosure. i figure my chances of successfully getting this right is about 2% if its even possible.
i aint certified in shit lol, but its in Iomegas records that mr.Sym is an expert so beware if you send your drive in, it may come to me rofl.
