Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: Warrior on March 27, 2004, 08:23:08 am
OK I  DO NOT want to talk about how to make the servers crash....  I want to find a way to stop it.   It's funny how those demo .96 cheaters want to come in and crash all the .98 servers because they're pissed off. However, it's pretty damn childish...   anyway,  I'm hoping that someone out there can help figure a way to mod the extracted demo and stop whatever kind of error causes this.  That way, I can run a .98 server that cannot be crashed by those goobers.  (really just 1 goober, who shall remain nameless)  but his NORMAL name when he plays is [RS]Blow.   Of course he changes it when he runs around crashing servers.   Anyway, hopefully Mullah Omar or somebody with some experience can give me idea of how to stop this.  Surely something in the extracted demo can be edited in order to stop this.

I remember how!
I think it is still up for download in the old section.

Just d/l it and look it over T.W.

It was for 1.3 I think but you could mod it for the VC demo easy enough.

All it does is look for the call for a file not found and the scrip says "yes I found it." so the server will not crash.

Only one of the things that some of the TKC programmers made that are not cheats.

Thanx a bunch man,   i can't remember the old site though   lol    could you please post a link, or more specificly a link to the right download would be fantastic.  Meantime, I'll keep hunting.  I think the old site might still be in my favs somewhere.   Script file for 1.3 i'm looking for?

Ok, scratch that ,   I found the SrvCrshPack.exe file    Now I just gotta figure out how to use this to keep the 98 demo server from failing.  I'm guessing the trainer is for crashing on the selected team.  I'm going to experiment around a bit, if you could give me some ideas of where to put what to make it block the crash   plz let me know   THANX!

I don't remember, but I think that the crasher just works for 1.3 and that it just protects from the same crasher program if it's used on you.

You can't stop the demo server crashings, you can just shoot a few hundreds of m79s and the server is down anytime. You can't fix the error messages either as long as they aren't generated by a program. I doubt so, I can't either see what's wrong in the error log as I haven't got the info about its structure or the game source.

However can you specify how the server is crashed?

Thanx man,  it works great though. Solved my problem completely.  Now I can Kick that ass that caused the server to crash when he joined.  Problem solved.  (I don't know if he's using the same prog to crash)

Yes but like MO said...the DEMO has so many problems with it that it can be crashed.

File not found is most often the cuase but too many garnades/AS/M-79 bursts in a given amount of time will do the same thing.

Those 2 issues wer fixed in the 1.4/1.41 patchs yet another two ways are still in the 1.6.

We hide that info alot better so we do not have another leak and some "clan" guy goes wild crashing servers again!

I thought you die hard clan players had no time for the demo anyhow...you setting up a server for the guys at school?

We could use some fresh meat in the game!

I like playing the demo a lot, mainly because it's like a miniature vietcong community. Just about all the people that play the .98 demo know each other, and know who the goobers are.  Plus , it's easier for me to play with my friend down the street in public servers, because he's on dialup and there is no ping kick in the demo.    And as far as crashing the servers with the M79, usually cheaters doing things like that get booted out pretty quick in .98

Try useing the FA demo....you get the extra map AND the 1.5/1.6 patch.
I never looked but it probibly also has the server commands as well.

Try it and let us know.

all the servers on there boot for high ping....   OK, the only reason that this guy is able to do this is because of info he obtained from this site..  I beg you Mullah Omar , I know it would be simple for you to make a functional sheild for the .98 demo.   Because if you don't, then nobody is ever going to be able to play it.  There are no other patches for the demo, and no other way to stop this error.  I'm sure a script like what ZoldDude was talking about would work.  Somebody help me out here...  Please

if you paid any attention dumbass, you would know that he started using my name after I made the first server he couldn't join. Pay attention and ask around, he hates me cause I'm the only one that has even remotely been able to stop him.

You could always try (if you got the game extracted), to move a texture or a .bes file to your game root directory and rename it to container.
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: Warrior on March 30, 2004, 06:15:38 am
That didn't work..  I tried the bes and dds file and named "container"
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: M. O. on March 30, 2004, 11:33:12 am
Well the name of the container.
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: Warrior on March 30, 2004, 11:46:10 am
yes I tried using the name of the container and also the name as it appears in the error log.  I've tried making both bes and dds of each, and placing them in the main dir of the game as well as the "g" dir for the game data.
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: M. O. on March 30, 2004, 12:38:04 pm
Well what error message do you get when you play? Is it a pop-up? Because the dir should stand in it. It's no extension in the file either. It's hard to say wheter it's an ini file or not.

I can't say anything about that error log as I haven't made it. It's just debug infromation for the people who have the source/made the game.
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: Warrior on March 30, 2004, 07:27:56 pm
actally when playing the game, you dont' get any sort of error message or pop up..  the game just completely crashes to the desktop. The only thing that I've been able to figure out is the iul_wooden container1#1   and I still don't know exactly what that is from or what it means.  The iul_wooden container object is in game already, I don't get it
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: M. O. on March 30, 2004, 10:29:25 pm
If you have found its dir you could try to copy it and rename it to the #1 one.
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: Warrior on March 30, 2004, 11:54:29 pm
I have also tried that without any luck.  I've been experimenting with placing copies of the renamed files into other locations it could be calling for, but no luck. At first, the sheild.dll files that I got for the v1.3 crash pack worked. And then somehow he got around it. Any more ideas?  Once again I really appreciate the help.
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: M. O. on March 31, 2004, 12:07:29 am
Well first off to solve anything we need to know the cause. That means how he does to crash a server. It' hard to do something without knowing it  :viet

So either Pterodon should look at the error report, then they will be able to do proper modifications in the source, or you could ask him how he does.
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: ZOldDude on March 31, 2004, 01:15:41 am
T.W. here is another  way to look at the problem....

Pterodon FINNALY fixed this in the 1.4/1.41 patch so use the extraction method and look inside the patch for the answer.

Oh...I was talking with Forrest and we both kinda think you should just use the FA demo......all the fixes and consol command are in it along with the extra map....you should be able to IP ban people as well.
Title: To STOP Demo Server Crashing
Post by: Warrior on March 31, 2004, 03:14:25 am
but retail servers are no good for dialup connections. I know you all keep saying FA demo, and I know... but we like to play with other people to and dialup is no good. I'll have a look at the 1.41 patch and see what kind of what I might can get out of that. But I'm sure if I incorporate system stuff from that patch the demo will not work right.

Use it to set up your own server....or use VC/FA set up a server and let them use THAT demo to connect.

I'm tired of dealing with this ridiculous shit.  Of any of you decide to actually FIX something , let me know. Because I'm tired of being stonewalled everywhere I turn. First off the people who made the demo don't give a shit about it.

We should not be expected to do thier job or compleat thier work....for free.

This is how the "company" works and how it treats people who are smart enough to fix things:

What this board (TKC) now trys to do is help those who kinda know what they are doing but may need a hint or bit of help....it makes that person a better skilled programmer.

The "cheating" and fun part are what brings some people into the sections here that deal with programming.

The guys that just want a "click-n-run" type of cheat mostly just look in the download section and the HOW-TO parts of this board just make them angry becuase they do not understand.

well heres a question, even though a bit off topic but related, what if YOUR the one that keeps getting kicked off the server. I find it that whenever im cheating/not playing by the rules. that just in random events, the entire vietcong program shuts down. WHY!? although one of these always manifests, maybe yall could decipher it and tell me what it means.
