Title: Time is an Illusion
Post by: [TKC]Lasher on January 02, 2007, 02:58:32 am
It really is. Every December 31st, we celebrate something, that doesnt exist! Seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. None of it is real. None of it has ever been real. Think about it, there isn't just some great big clock somewhere that is the grandmaster time. So we are all a little insane if we celebrate 'new years' because well, it doesnt exist! It's not there! Never was, never will be. We invented time to...well keep track of things. So you aren't standing on the street corner with a pal and say, "Hey, I'll meet you tomorrow. When the sun...is over there!" and then point up at the sky. We have time and calenders basicaly to say "Look at what I have to do today!!" I mean really. We are all a little crazy. I know it sounds like I copied this, or I got it from a website, but I didn't. Just a friendly opinion. Thank you for your time. And have a happy....whatever just be happy.

Its a way of keeping track of things. How would you get organized if there was no time to go by?

Time is that which is measured by a clock. ;)

The New Year is imaginary just as you say. Many cultures don't even celebrate the new year on dec the 31th.

Almost same thing with Christmas. We don't celebrate the birth of Jesus, we celebrate some ancient god of the sun. They just put christmas at that time because it was convenient.

Didnt know that. Very cool.

You said time is something that is measured by a clock. Why are there 60 minutes in an hour. Why dont they make a day last 12 hours and have each minute last 120 seconds? (not sure if that works out mathematically, but the point is still there)

Also, a new year is an oppertunity to set new goals "I will play on stage alot this year" is one of my goals. I couldnt make this goal if I didnt have time to work with. Time creates the frame I am working within.

I forget how it came to be 24 hours....but the hours/mis/secs are also used in global maps as a "standard".
I am sure that it has to do with some division of the day in some way like the division of days make one trip around the Sun....it all dates back to early agriculture in some way.

Easter like Xmas were old celebration days long before Cheesus.

What is called Xmas was the feast of the return of the Sun (shortest day of the year falls between Dec 21-23).

Easter is the old Feast of Ester...a celebration of fertility in the spring or planting time.

lol...Actually most Holy days in the Catholic Church not only serve as feastdays of Saints...but they have also replaced alot of the old pagan feast days...and with good reason...people like to party... and the Church knows this...but its a good thing...For instance ...If I am correct the Feast of Mithrus falls on the 25th of Dec..Mithrus was a later addition to the religeon of Zoroastrianism..People's speculations vary on the actual date of Christ's Birth...one thing is agreed is that we have chosen to celebrate His birth on the 25th of December...Easter is different because it coincides with Passover...The Russian Ortodox is typically 2weeks after our celebration of Easter...I have forgotten why...must be ADHD...If I am not mistaken the reason for Easter eggs is that the Virgin Mary took them to the Crucifixion...perhaps to cast at soldiers...It is said that when she cried upon them they had changed color...Let me get a beer!

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT TIME ISNT REAL!!!
Title: Re: Time is an Illusion

Time is real...we make it real...and all illusions aside wont stop the world from turning
...it is an absurdity to say time is an illusion...it is like saying outer space does not exist...yet it does...even though it is nothing...it still contains volume...maybe not a volume defined by matter...but still a volume defined by it's lack..

Time is real, may not have a physical property. If you dont belive in time, how can you possible belive in the infinate outerspace. What if outerspace is infinite to make room for all of time to be stored? what if were all part of something greater? yes time may not be visible to the eye, or you cant feel it to the touch (unless your talking figurativly and then you do see time changes and feel effects of time) But i think its one of those things, we will never learn the true answer untill probably the very end. I love the universe and i praise whatever put it there. wether it was there before time existed or a higer being made it. it will never be known and i think it is the ulimate test. we find a million scientific breakthroughs  and we would get bored if we knew the answer to everything. space and time is something we will never understand, and i dont want to. it would take the magic and wonder out of it.

So i say this to the almighty "time" please don't change.

first off. if outerspace is where time is stored...wouldnt that mean we use up space every day/week/month/year/decade/etc? we created time in itself to keep track of things. so , as i posted, we dont say ," hey! ill meet tomorrow. when the sun, is over there!" and point up at the sky. second, it sounds like you may have a religious point. i myself am athiest/agnostic. i dont think we will ever know how we are. where we really are. for that matter WHAT we are. i think our original intent and purpose was to eat, sleep, reproduce, and die. only over the years we changed the...average plan. something sparked interest and the first people did something other than eating sleeping and all that. if we did know everything it wouldnt take the fun out of anything because you can probably run the same test (for example) a thousand times, and get a different end result. my point here is that time is something totally fictional. everbody here thought what i said was a riddle. its not, its a solemn truth if you actually understand what i said.
