Title: windows 10 thread?
Post by: SomeRandomGuy on July 29, 2015, 07:52:53 pm
windows 10 thread

Microsoft has renewed its Privacy Policy and Service Agreement. The new services agreement goes into effect on 1 August 2015.

By default, when signing into Windows with a Microsoft account, Windows syncs some of your settings and data with Microsoft servers, for example ?web browser history, favorites, and websites you have open? as well as ?saved app, website, mobile hotspot, and Wi-Fi network names and passwords?.

Windows generates a unique advertising ID for each user on a device. This advertising ID can be used by third parties, such as app developers and advertising networks for profiling purposes.

When device encryption is on, the BitLocker recovery key for the user?s device is automatically backed up online in the Microsoft OneDrive account.

To enable Cortana, Microsoft collects and uses data such as your device location, data from your calendar, the apps you use, data from your emails and text messages, who you call, your contacts, how often you interact with them on your device, your music, alarm settings, whether the lock screen is on, what you view and purchase, your browse and Bing search history, speech data, your voice input, as well your name and nickname, your recent calendar events and the names of the people in your appointments, and information about your contacts including names and nicknames.

?We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to enforce the terms governing the use of the services".

Microsoft basically grants itself very broad rights to collect everything you do, say and write with and on your devices in order to sell more targeted advertising or to sell your data to third parties. The company appears to be granting itself the right to share your data either with your consent ?or as necessary?.

meh im still getting it for the speed

Looks like we got no choice but to update, but incentive for competitors like linux will grow and at some point make microsoft redundant if they continue down that road. I got one windows machine out of a total of, I don't know, 15. Still not win 10 yet though. I had to get Win 8.1 dual boot for netflix only, unbelievable.

I just realized that Win 10 is locked to your "device" (motherboard probably). So you can't transfer it to a new comp without buying a license. That's bs.
Title: Re: windows 10 thread?

What about the yearly "fee" to keep it working.

The upgrade is free but limited to one device only. You can't transfer your winhd to a new comp without getting a new license. Or so it seems.

The OS Windows 10 has been banned from some sites...more to follow.

The OS key-logs everything you type and sends it to Microsoft every 30 minutes :

It's very hard to avoid due to DX12, Photoshop and some hardware that won't work with other systems.
Title: Re: windows 10 thread?

Nothing known uses DX12 so it's not a loss.
Microsoft should make software and operating systems and let the NSA do it's job it's self.

I wanted to write what you wrote above, but that was when I discovered that the old forum wouldn't let me. :P

Does this telemetry data incl. the keylogger functionality (these things are called "features" nowadays - most people seem to accept it - must be an analogue of the "boiling frog")?

When thinking of the keylogging "features" of Win 10, I remembered my old creation Autobot

http://tkc-community.net/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=37#forum

I launched it and it still works!

It simulates keystrokes, you can make it type complete texts for you, and everything can be put on repeat. So while you're away you can let MS investigate all the nonsense you let the program type for you.

I used it to recite books, page by page, to players in OFP chat while I was AFK.

I think I got the idea from a prank at school where I made a "self-calculating" program for a friend's "pocket" calculator. It would loop various random computations and display the input and output just as if someone was typing it in. Finding the calculator in that state is pure comedy. I like to think that's the kind of cheats I (used to) make too, not to get an advantage, but for fun.

you can't even update or install packages without setting perms, using terminal.. Welcome back in 90's

should be fucking double click as in windows.

this is definitely not intended for normal users who wants to enjoy their PCs instead of fucking with it.. unless you like it.

Windows cannot be replaced that's the fact, otherwise linux would be used worldwidely by more than 1% users.

Windows will be replaced if they continue abusing their position like they do now. At least that's why I switch my main to linux too. The other comps are already non-windows.

scrub it off and install pure Win7 SP1 ... and shut win updates down.

To enable the hidden features for Windows 8/8.1/10, here's what you need to do:

Step 1: Right-click on your desktop and make a new folder. For the folder's name, paste the string given below:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Do not forget to insert the period after "GodMode." You can also alter the name of the folder (even though the hack is called GodMode). To do so, simply alter the "GodMode" part of the string to the name you want.

Step 2: Once you have inserted the string, hit Enter and the icon will resemble the Control Panel.

Step 3: Open the folder to see the available customization options/configuration settings at your disposal. It is pretty easy to shift around GodMode on your system the same manner in which you can shift any traditional folder.

In the event you change your mind and want to remove the customization, just click on the GodMode icon on your system and simply delete it. Re-enabling it is easy too and can be done using any of the above-mentioned steps.

Effective or not, it leaves a sour taste, you get nauseous by the thought. My confidence in Microsoft was low, now it's gone completely.

They try to centralize a technology that doesn't have to be centralized. While using linux you feel free, and you get to carve the system to your requirements.

Script for Win 7/8 to block all telemetry updates and Windows 10 upgrade components
https://voat.co/v/technology/comments/459263

Most promising script yet, it does all the tedious manual stuff for you, and it removed that annoying win10 popup.

Windows 7 and newer are spying too.. that's because of the updates that Microsoft incorporates into systems.

And that's why you block those updates, if you aren't on linux already ;)

I tried to get convinced into linux but I have not had pleasurable experience.. After changing my login screen on Linux mint,I couldn't access administration account.. I booted up a laptop ,login screen appeared for a second then automatically loaded guest session... fuckin hell...  I've finally fixed it somehow but I wasn't happy of that bug..  :icon_cool2

btw your very limited using Linux.. U cannot run most of the games, cannot write game trainers, cannot use professional office, graphics software. And OFC windows provides ease of use... no fucking around with commands.. I only like Linux as a server because its performance is great.

It's like a piece of clay you work.

There are many problems, and yes, in the beginning it's like when you start out learning a new OS (most people don't even know how to use Windows or MacOS properly). Command line solves everything, especially if you can't login, and it's very productive and powerful.

I dual boot with Win7 on one of my too many computers for some games and graphics software (office is not really needed, I moved to latex and never looked back, but I still get upset when people send me .doc and not .pdf . .doc is an editing format. .pdf is for publishing and reading).
